JSerra girls triumph in Trinity Preview meet

    Ashley Geisler, Tori Yanco and Charlotte Owen finished in the top five to lead JSerra’s girls cross country team to a victory in the Trinity League Preview Meet on the 3-mile course at Central Park.

    The Lions finished with 29 points, while Mater Dei (56) placed second.

    Rosary’s Katie Caya won the race with a time of 18 minutes, 34 seconds. Geisler (18:57), Yanco (19:10) and Owen (19:16) finished in the next three spots.

    Swim: Corona del Mar's Popp commits to Harvard

    Corona del Mar standout swimmer Meagan Popp of the Irvine Novaquatics has committed to Harvard, her club coach, Ken LaMont, said on Twitter on Wednesday.

    "Committed to Harvard!!!" the senior wrote on her Instagram page. "I couldn't be more excited."

    Popp captured the 500-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke at the Pacific Coast League finals last season and went on to finish fifth in the the 200 free (1:48.95) at the CIF Division 1 finals and third in the 500 (4:50.35).

    Football recruiting: Huntington Beach tackles offered by Montana State

    Huntington Beach offensive tackles Quinn Hudak (6-9, 280) and Jake McFetridge (6-6, 285) have been offered by FCS No. 15-ranked Montana State, Oilers football coach Eric Lo said.

    Hudak starts at right tackle for the Oilers while McFetridge operates at left tackle. McFetridge also has been offered by San Diego.

    Swim: JSerra's Albertoli picks Stanford

    JSerra All-County swimmer Kaitlyn Albertoli has committed to Stanford, the senior said Wednesday morning.

    "I am so thrilled to join this incredible group of girls and awesome coaches as a part of the Cardinal family!" Albertoli said in an email. "I feel very blessed for the opportunity to attend such a great university."

    Beckman breaks 180 in beating Northwood

    Chae-Kim Lee birdied five holes on the front nine of Oak Creek Golf Club to post a 4-under 32 and help No. 2 Beckman card the lowest score on a par-36 course this girls golf season. 

    As a team Beckman finished 3-under as a team, shooting a 177 to beat Northwood in a Pacific Coast League match by 41 strokes. 

    The Patriots (6-1, 5-0) have broken 190 four times in seven matches this season.

    Mater Dei, Abdulghany win Long Beach Wilson Invitational

    LONG BEACH - Mater Dei girls golf coach Derek Uyesaka and Corona del Mar sophomore Alyaa Adbulghany shared a similar feeling on Monday after collecting their first place plaques as the team and individual champions of the Long Beach Wilson Invitational.

    Of course, both were extremely proud. As Uyesaka said after the Monarchs posted a 311 and edged second-place Troy by four strokes, "It is always good to win. It never gets old."
