    Football recruiting: Buena Park's Wingfield flying to Rocky Mountain

    Buena Park's football program certainly takes placing its players in college programs seriously.

    Take Coach Anthony White's announcement Tuesday night as just the latest example.

    White reports that running back/cornerback/wide receiver Delvon Wingfield (5-10, 181) recently committed to Division II Western New Mexico as an athlete.

    Wingfield graduated with Buena Park on May 28 but White's announcement shows that the Coyotes are still helping kids get placed at colleges.

    Water polo flash: Mater Dei-based Regency strikes gold at Junior Olympics

    Tournament MVP Nick Lavayen scored in the final round of shootouts and goalie Jonathan Van De Velde made two key saves at the end of regulation to help Mater Dei-based Regency defeat L.A. Premier, 11-10, in the gold-medal match of the boys 18-and-under water polo Junior Olympics at Stanford.

    Regency claimed the crown for the second consecutive year but this summer did it without any graduated seniors.

    Basketball: Pflueger lists top five schools

    Mater Dei senior guard Rex Pflueger trimmed his college choice down to five potential schools on Tuesday afternoon.

    In a Twitter post, Pflueger said the final five are (in no order): Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Cal, Washington State, and San Diego State.

    Pflueger averaged 12 points and five assists a game for the Monarchs as a junior last season. He was named second-team All-County by the Register.

    OLu's Lucier-South releases list of his top 5 schools

    Orange Lutheran linebacker/defensive end Keisean Lucier-South, who is No. 38 in ESPN's ranking of the top 300 recruits in the nation for 2015, released a list of the top five schools he is likely to sign with - UCLA, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma and Oregon. He did not rank them in any order.

    The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Lucier-Smith was a first-team All-County defensive lineman in 2013. This season, the Lancers are planning to play him at outside linebacker in their new 3-4 defense.

    Los Alamitos punter Johnson commits to Arkansas

    Los Alamitos punter Blake Johnson said he has committed to Arkansas, which offered him a scholarship during a visit to the campus last week.

    Johnson is one of the top-ranked punters in the nation for the class of 2015. Rivals ranks him fourth in the nation and ranks him second.

    Johnson also held offers from Colorado, Oregon State and Duke.

    JSerra's Lewis to play for U.S. in Baseball World Cup

    JSerra incoming sophomore Royce Lewis was selected Friday to be part of the U.S. team that will play in the 15U Baseball World Cup in Mazatlan, Mexico, from July 31 to Aug. 11.

    Lewis made the 20-player roster after going through the National Team Trials this week in Cary, N.C.

    YORBA LINDA – The crystal trophy that Issei Tanabe cradled in left arm at Yorba Linda Country Club might not have been his had the Mater Dei boys golf not achieved an historic level of success last season.

    Croom transfers to Servite from LB Poly

    Micah Croom, a highly regarded safety, today was accepted at Servite and is enrolling there, Servite athletic director Alan Clinton confirmed today.

    Croom, 6-foot-1 and 188 pounds, will be a junior this coming school year. He attended Long Beach Poly as a freshman and sophomore. He was named to's All-Sophomore defense first team in 2013.

    Croom has received a scholarship offer from Utah.

    Lofink to coach Canyon girls basketball team

    Mark Lofink has been hired as the girls basketball coach at Canyon, the school announced on July 16.

    Lofink has been a junior varsity head coach and assistant coach at Orange Lutheran for the past 15 seasons.

    Santa Margarita's Blancs share national honor

    Santa Margarita co-coaches and brothers Rich and Ron Blanc were named national girls swimming coaches of the year by the National High School Coaches Association.

    The Eagles' girls swimming team won its 15th consecutive Trinity League championship this past school year, and were CIF-Southern Section Division 1 champions.

    Mater Dei's Gary McKnight was named national boys basketball coach of the year by the NHSCA.
