OCVarsity preview for the 2015 season:

SADDLEBACK ROADRUNNERS

Coach: Rob Thompson

Last season: 6-5 overall, 4-1 in league

Scouting report: The Roadrunners bought into Coach Rob Thompson’s belief early last season and it translated into the program’s first playoff appearance since 2006. To get back there this season, Saddleback will need another big year from senior two-way player Pedro Leon. Leon, Jorge Munoz and Jose Benitez are three-year starters and will provide the leadership for this year’s team. James Herrera is one to watch on defense at middle linebacker. The Roadrunners return five starters on each side of the ball. The team is young, but has a lot of potential.

Bottom line: This year’s team is motivated and has the potential to get back to the playoffs and contend for the league title again.

Players to watch: Jose Benitez, C/DE, Sr.; James Herrera, MLB, Sr.; Pedro Leon, RB/SS, Sr; Jorge Munoz, OG/DT, Sr.; Jonathan Reyes, CB, Sr.
