O.C. PRESEASON TOP 10

1. Aliso Niguel: The Wolverines return the same lineup that captured the first league title and made the CIF quarterfinals a year ago. Could a deeper playoff run be on tap this year?

2. Los Alamitos: The defending CIF-SS Division 1AA champions return two starters, but the Griffins have a cast of returners that figure to contribute this season.

3. Santa Margarita: The Eagles are another team with a mix of youth and experience. Sophomore Meghan McClure is one of the top threats in the county, and freshman setter Devon Chang could be key to the team’s success.

4. San Clemente: The Tritons, who have a new coach, Tom Beard, and graduated just one starter for a year ago, have the potential to improve on last year’s second-round appearnce in the CIF playoffs.

5. Villa Park: The Spartans, led by new coach Megan Spurgin, are another intriguing team this season. They have a strong returning cast from last year’s team that won the league title.

6. Mater Dei: The Monarchs graduated a lot from last year’s team. This year’s team should be deeper and will be strengthened when transfers Jacqueline Wolfe and Alyse Ford become eligible.

7. Sage Hill: The Lightning have a good mix of veteran leadership and talented young players ready to contribute to another CIF title run.

8. Huntington Beach: Following last year’s quarterfinal appearance, the Oilers graduated a lot of key pieces, but they figure to be in the mix for the Sunset League title.

9. Corona del Mar: The season will have a different look without Hayley Hodson in the lineup, but the Sea Kings have an experienced group returning and should make some noise this season.

10. Laguna Beach: The Breakers have a deep group returning and should be in contention for a CIF title.
