TUSTIN - After all the games and sensational performances that filled the 2008-09 high school sports season, many athletes stood out for their accomplishments.
And quite a few received serious consideration to be selected as the athletes of the year for the Orange County Register and OCVarsity.com.
The two who stood out the most, however, and won the voting were Villa Park's Josh Samuels and Foothill's Christina Marinacci.
Samuels, who played three sports this year for the Spartans will play water polo at UCLA, and Marinacci, who played volleyball and basketball and will continue in basketball at USC, were announced as the winners tonight at the Register and OCVarsity's annual Athletes of the Year Dinner at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin.
The small schools athletes of the year also were announced. Calvary Chapel's Morgan McIntosh and St. Margaret's Mary-Rachel Walsh won those honors.
