Burbank (10-3) vs. Yorba Linda (11-2)

Outlook: The Mustangs are making their first CIF finals appearance. Yorba Linda finished second in the Crestview League and has defeated Kaiser of Fontana (45-12), Garden Grove (20-17) and El Modena (28-21) to advance. Junior quarterback Luke Wilson has completed 26 of 38 over the previous two rounds for 303 yards and three touchdowns. For the season, he’s completing 64.5 percent of his passes. Jaydyn Webb is getting stronger as the season progresses. Webb has 52 carries for 302 yards and three touchdowns in the previous two playoff games. Defensively, Noah Lines (145 tackles, three interceptions) and Jacob Denissen (106 tackles, 11 sacks) are two of the players to watch for the Mustangs. Sophomore Ricky Lane leads Yorba Linda with five interceptions. The Bulldogs finished second in the Pacific League. They’ve won five consecutive games since losing to Crescenta Valley (35-21), Oct. 28. Burbank has defeated Brea Olinda, 52-32, Northview of Covina, 30-27, and Don Lugo of Chino, 44-14, to advance to the finals. Senior quarterback Guy Gibbs leads the offense, completing 160 of 191 passes for 2,331 yards. He has passed for 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. Nicolas Warren is Burbank’s leading rusher with 934 yards with 13 touchdowns. Darnell Williams (517 yards, 11 touchdowns) is also important to the running game. Gibbs has done a great job spreading the ball around to his wide receivers. Burbank has six players with at least 18 receptions and that six has at least 200 receiving yards. Forest Fajardo is the leader with 43 receptions for 755 yards and seven touchdowns. Jake Kelley (107 tackles, 16 sacks) is the leader of the defense. The defense has recorded 52 sacks and 27 interceptions, so this will be one of Yorba Linda’s biggest tests this season.
