ANAHEIM – Xavier Salgado combined to pass and run for five touchdowns and 372 yards to lead Ocean View to a 40-0 victory over Loara in their Golden West League opener Saturday night at Western High.

The 6-foot, 175-pound senior quarterback completed 12 of 15 passes for 280 yards and rushed 16 times for 92. He threw touchdown passes of 6 and 8 yards to Chase Foreman and a 73-yarder to Nathaniel Washington, and ran for 49- and 1-yard scores.

The Seahawks (4-2) had 300 yards rushing. Foreman gained 68 on eight carries, Noah Deloera had 67 on 13, including a 3-yard touchdown, and Rodrigo Adame ran for 29 on six.

Loara (1-5) was held to 35 yards passing and 29 rushing. Quarterback Frankie Nocella was sacked four times for 24 yards lost.

Ocean View moved 53 yards on seven straight running plays for its first touchdown, by Deloera from the 3 with 8:18 left in the first period. Foreman had the long gainer on the drive, a 23-yarder to the Loara 20.

Salgado’s 49-yard touchdown run began as a sweep to the right. He reversed against the flow and out ran the defenders to score with 43 seconds remaining in the first.

Salgado showed his passing prowess on the next touchdown march, only 24 yards following Ocean View’s recovery of a fumble.

Tight end Micah Cianca gained 18 on a reception on first down. Loara stopped Salgado for negative 3 yards on the next two plays, but Salgado connected with Foreman for a 6-yard touchdown with 5:46 remaining in the second quarter.

Ocean View’s fourth scoring drive of the first half began at its 24, but actually covered 90 yards following a holding penalty. On third-and-18, Salgado completed an 18-yard pass to 6-foot-5, 197-pound split end Adam Meyer.

On the next play, Meyer stretched the field deep and Salgado launched a pass that became a 47-yard gain to the Loara 19.

Foreman ran 11 yards to the 8 and then caught a touchdown pass from an on-the-run Salgado to lift the Seahawks to a 26-0 halftime lead.
