FULLERTON – After going through its usual tough nonleague schedule, La Habra went back to something else that’s usual for the Highlanders – winning Freeway League games.

A pair of second-half touchdowns broke a 10-10 tie and gave the Highlanders a 24-10 victory over Troy on Friday night at Fullerton High.

It was the 46th consecutive league win for the Highlanders (3-3, 1-0), a record for an Orange County school. Troy (4-2, 0-1) did make it interesting when Josiah Norwood completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Mikale Hill with 7:38 left in the third period to make it 10-10.

La Habra, ranked seventh in this week’s CIF Division 2 coaches poll, then drove 65 yards in 12 plays. Zach Fogel threw a 9-yard scoring toss to Prince Ross to give the Highlanders the lead for good.

La Habra took an early lead on a 5-yard touchdown run by Fogel. The score was set up by a 28-yard pass from Fogel to Ross, a 17-yard run by Fogel and a 15-yard scamper by Derirck Corso.

Troy, ranked seventh in CIF Division 5, then covered 70 yards in 14 plays but had to settle for a 28-yard field goal by Austin Leocadia with 10 seconds left in the period.

Holden Remme increased the La Habra lead to 10-3 with a 28-yard field goal midway through the second quarter.

Madison Wheeler gave the Highlanders some breathing room when he scored from 2 yards out with 8:29 left in the contest.

The Highlanders finished with 319 yards in offense. Jacobah Fuamutu led La Habra with 72 yards rushing on eight carries, while Fogel ran nine times for 71 yards.

Troy, the last team to defeat La Habra in league play 10 years ago, accumulated 206 yards in offense. Norwood ran 10 times for 66 yards, while Skyler Taylor also carried 10 times for 57 yards.
