ANAHEIM – A pair of touchdown runs by Jordan Hawkins and two touchdown passes from Anthony Munoz to Aaron Bojorquez carried Western past intercity rival Anaheim, 27-10, in a nonleague game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

Hawkins rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries for the Pioneers (2-2-1), while Munoz went 7 for 10 for 100 yards. Bojorquez was on the receiving end of five tosses for 84 yards.

Anaheim (1-4) did run 10 more plays from scrimmage than Western and most of its 215 yards came on the ground, led by Raymond Serna’s 79 yards on 20 attempts.

The Colonists opened the game with a brief drive before Jesus Varela booted a 32-yard field goal to give Anaheim its only lead of the contest.

Western immediately responded, with Munoz finding Bojorquez for 30 yards on the Pioneers’ second play. Hawkins raced 30 yards for his first TD, giving Western a 6-3 advantage.

The eventual winning points for the Pioneers were set up by an interception from Jesus Lopez in the second quarter. Munoz hit a wide open Bojorquez for 24 yards and a 13-3 lead less than three minutes into the second.

Serna capped an 11-play, 60-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown run with just under four minutes left in the first half, but Western was not done in the end zone.

The Munoz-Borjorquez duo would connect again near the end of the first half. Despite a pair of procedure penalties that pushed the Pioneers outside the Anaheim 10-yard line, they worked in tandem for 15-yard scoring strike, giving Western a 20-10 halftime cushion.

The Colonists put together another impressive march downfield, going 66 yards in 17 plays that took over seven minutes off the clock. An incomplete pass on fourth down turned the ball over to the Pioneers.

Taking advantage of the missed play and a personal foul penalty against Anaheim, Hawkins closed out the Pioneer scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run 30 seconds into the fourth quarter.
