LA PUENTE – Brethren Christian won its third straight game Thursday in a dominant performance over Workman, 49-0, at La Puente High.

The Warriors scored touchdowns on all of their seven possessions and held Workman to 47 yards in total offense.

Quarterback Joey Gutierrez threw four touchdown passes and Jordan Leonard rushed for 210 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns for the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division 10. Gutierrez completed 8 of 11 for 97 yards. Leonard’s scoring runs were 63 and 15 yards.

The Warriors (3-0) limited run-oriented Workman (0-2) to 41 yards on 26 carries. Workman had 6 yards passing. The Lobos’ deepest penetration into Brethren Christian territory was the 42-yard line late in the third quarter.

Brethren Christian led, 29-0, at halftime.

Nathan Sagastume’s 28-yard punt return to the Workman 24 set up the Warriors’ opening touchdown.

Gutierrez, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior, had back-to-back completions of 6 and 18 yards to Brent Nash Jr. for a 6-0 lead in the first period. Sagastume ran for the 2-point conversion.

The Warriors had their longest drive, 77 yards on 16 plays, on their second possession. Nash had a 9-yard TD reception.

Gutierrez hooked up with Josh Gorrell for the third touchdown, a 19-yard pass.

Leonard ran through a big hole on his 63-yard touchdown with 2:26 remaining in the half.
