BUENA PARK – Alex Jung lost a fumble on the first offensive play of the season for Sunny Hills on Friday night. By the end of the night that fumble was long forgotten, as Jung scored four touchdowns to lead the Lancers to a 50-14 victory over Santiago in a nonleague opener at Buena Park High.

The Lancers defense made sure that fumble didn’t cause any damage as it stopped the Cavaliers (0-1) at the 1-yard line.

The offense took over from there, using six consecutive running plays to cover 99 yards, with Brandon Castelo finishing the drive with a 39-yard touchdown run. Jung ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0.

The Cavaliers defense had no answer for Sunny Hills’ powerful offensive line and running game as the Lancers (1-0) ran for 273 yards in the first half and finished the night with 440 yards. In addition to his four touchdowns, Jung ran for a team-high 167 yards and caught a 28-yard touchdown pass.

While the trio of Jung, Castelo (103 yards rushing) and Cade Caffrey (90 yards) controlled the offensive side of the ball, the Lancers defense did plenty of damage as well.

The Cavaliers didn’t reach positive yards rushing until the fourth quarter thanks to lineman Giovanni Flores, who when not making tackles for losses was plugging up the middle or pressuring the quarterback. The defense also got two interceptions from Josh Neumann.
