GARDEN GROVE – Rancho Alamitos came into Friday night’s contest against Bolsa Grande hoping to wrap up its regular season with a league win before starting the playoffs.

The Vaqueros were able to do just that in impressive fashion, defeating Bolsa Grande, 55-6, to finish in second place in the Garden Grove League.

Rancho Alamitos (8-2, 4-1) took control early, taking a 35-0 halftime by dominating on both sides of the ball.

The Vaqueros didn’t let up in the second half, scoring two touchdowns in the first five minutes of the third quarter to officially put the game out of reach.

The passing game worked well for the Vaqueros as quarterback Blake Culbert finished 20 of 32 for 267 yards and four touchdowns, while also carrying the ball eight times for 39 yards.

Rancho Alamitos was led in the ground game by running back Miguel Rosales, who ran eight times for 53 yards and two scores.

Bolsa Grande (0-10, 0-5) struggled to get its offense going, compiling just 20 yards of offense in the first half and only 82 yards for the game.

The Matadors were led by quarterback Eduardo Arreola, who finished 4 of 12 for 52 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Bolsa Grande got a nice performance from running back Elian Gallegos, who carried 12 times for a team-high 38 yards.

Rancho Alamitos will play the playoffs next Friday against an opponent to be determined.
