HUNTINGTON BEACH – Calvary Chapel clinched at least a share of the Orange Coast League championship with a 40-0 victory over Laguna Beach on Friday night at Ocean View High.

The Eagles (6-3 overall, 4-0 OCL) got going early when, on the second play of the game, senior quarterback Patrick Glasgow connected with senior receiver Luke Thompson on a screen pass that Thompson took 90 yards for a score.

The Breakers (2-7, 0-4) made a few big plays, but could not string together a scoring drive. The closest they came was a drive that ended in a lost fumble at Calvary Chapel’s 5 at the end of the first half.

Laguna Beach couldn’t get the push it needed against the Eagles’ defensive front. Ten of its 51 plays from scrimmage resulted in negative yardage. The Breakers averaged 1.9 yards per carry, netting 52 rushing yards on 28 attempts.

Calvary Chapel averaged 7.3 yards per carry, led by senior running back Braeden Stack, who had 82 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.

Glasgow finished 10 of 20 for 228 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. His backup, junior Sam Lak, connected with senior Josh Debernarde, who made an athletic catch while sandwiched between two defenders for a 35-yard touchdown.

Laguna Beach quarterback Jack Simon finished 11 of 23 for 83 yards with one interception.
