SANTA ANA – Counting on six different players to pile up 372 rushing yards, Segerstrom used that strength to its advantage in blanking rival Godinez, 35-0, in a nonleague game at Segerstrom High School on Friday night.

The visiting Jaguars (2-1-1) outgained the host Grizzlies (1-2) by 226 yards in the “Fundamental Bowl” and have taken five of the six all-time meetings since 2010.

Segerstom took a 13-0 advantage with 41 seconds remaining in the opening half on Abel Diaz’s 20-yard run, capping a 5-play, 71-yard march that went 1:54. Hector Blanco’s ensuing extra point attempt was blocked.

Diaz totaled 90 yards on 9 carries, second to the team’s leading rusher of the game, George Ortega, who ran 13 times for 99 yards.

On their opening series of the night, the Jaguars converted on 4th down after a 31-yard pass from Marcos Avalos to Zamani Nuñez which set up the 5-yard run from Gabriel Lopez to put them ahead, 7-0 2:34 into the first quarter, concluding a 7-play, 57-yard drive that lasted 1:34.

Segerstrom held Godinez to 33 yards of total offense in the first half while not allowing any receptions on three passes.

The Jaguars rolled up 263 yards of offense in the first half, 203 of which came on 27 rushing attempts.
