NEWPORT BEACH – Senior running back DJ Henry rushed for four touchdowns and Sage Hill routed Fairmont Prep, 41-14, in its home opener Friday night at Ramer Field.

Henry finished with 82 yards on 11 carries, doing most of his damage in the first half. He had 72 yards and three touchdowns by halftime as the Lightning (1-1) opened a 28-7 lead.

Sage Hill coach Abram Booty was proud of the way Henry kept battling after contact.

“DJ Henry, man, he fought for yards all night long,” Booty said.

Junior quarterback Caden Sheetz provided balance to the efficient rushing game, completing 11 of 15 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior wide receiver Jacob Copeland had 151 yards receiving, including both scores, an 80-yarder in the second quarter and an 11-yarder in the second half.

Although the game got out of hand early in the third quarter, both of Fairmont’s running backs had solid nights. Senior Daniel Chatman finished with 200 yards on 16 carries, and freshman Tas Malaga bulldozed his way to 92 yards on 27 carries – scoring both of Fairmont’s touchdowns.

Copeland finished with 151 receiving yards.

Booty was proud of the way his team bounced back from a 40-7 loss to Calvary Chapel last week and said he hopes this win can be the beginning of something special for a young team.

Sage Hill travels to Windward next week, while Fairmont Prep (0-2) meets Desert Christian of Lancaster.
