CLAREMONT- The perfect season continued Saturday afternoon for Saddleback Valley Christian after the Warriors grounded out a 26-3 San Joaquin League victory at The Webb Schools.

Saddleback Valley (7-0 overall, 2-0 in league) allowed a 22-yard Daniel Crisostomo field goal just five minutes into the game, but that was all the Gauls’ (4-3, 1-1) offense could muster.

The Warriors, led by 75 yards each from both Charlie Morris and David Molina, out-rushed the Gauls by more than 230 yards. .

“We had a couple penalties early that got us out of our rhythm, but once we got our running game established, we started to play the way we’re capable,” first-year Warriors’ coach Brian Pearsall said. “Our defense set the tone physically and that helped get our running game going.”

Morris’ 3-yard TD run with 8:50 to go in the first half gave the Warriors a 7-3 lead that would not be challenged.

Saddleback Valley quarterback Cade Henjum hit Caleb Ward on a 32-yard pass to give the Warriors a 13-3 advantage at the half.

Henjum then ran it in from 2 yards out late in the third before being replaced by Jake Markum.

Markum picked up where Henjum left off by connecting on a 30-yard TD pass to Sawyer Caso-Nogle to finish off the Gauls.

Henjum finished 7 of 13 for 106 yards and Markum was 5 of 7 for 100 yards.

The Gauls’ Andrew Vidales completed just 5 of 11 passes for 47 yards and was picked off by the Warriors’ Jackson Greene late in the game.

Saddleback Valley will continue league play next Friday when it hosts Southlands Christian (1-6, 0-3).
