WESTMINSTER – Westminster pounded visiting Loara with its running game, then went to the air and ended up with 470 yards of offense en route to a 42-6 rout in a Golden West League opener at Westminster.

Humberto Maciel And Matt Dinh combined for 156 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in the first half. Lucas Goode threw for 141 yards and two scores for the Lions (4-2 overall), who might have scored more but for two first-quarter fumbles and an interception in the end zone at the end of the third quarter.

Josh Moran rushed for 185 yards on 27 carries for Loara (0-6) – with six gains of at least 10 yards, three of 25 or more — but the Saxons still struggled to move the ball before the game was out of reach, with just four positive-yardage plays not involving the senior running back through three quarters. Moran had 174 yards after three quarters, 2 more than Loara’s total.

Goode, who hadn’t thrown a pass all season, completed 6 of 9 passes, including successive gains of 17, 20 and 19 to set up a 7-yard TD pass to Gabriel Sanchez for a 21-0 lead at the close of the first half. He also completed a 53-yard screen pass to Andrew Dotson) and a 25-yard TD pass to Daniel White to make it 35-6.

Dinh passed for another 50 yards and finished with 84 yards rushing, most of it on a 40-yard TD sprint, after juggling the snap.
