DOWNEY – Calvary Chapel of Downey scored three touchdowns in a two-minute stretch of the first quarter and added three more in the final four minutes of the first half to cruise to a 46-16 victory over Fairmont Prep in a nonleague game Thursday at Downey High.

The Grizzlies (4-1) posted 396 yards of offense in their final tuneup prior to the Academy League portion of their schedule. Senior runniing back Sam Arcala led the attack with 237 yards on 31 carries and three touchdowns.

Fairmont Prep (2-4) finished with 221 yards on offense.

After falling behind, 18-0, with just over three minutes remaining in the opening period, the Huskies found success in the air with three consecutive completions from Darwyn Gines to Lionel Wiggins. The first was good for 32 yards to the Calvary Chapel 9-yard line. The next would result in a touchdown and the last would give the Huskies a two-point conversion.

Calvary Chapel’s lead was cut to 32-16 when Denneious Celestine scored from a yard out for the Huskies, who added another two-point conversion.

Wiggins finished with five receptions for 63 yards, rushed four times for 17 yards and was involved in 12 tackles.
