BUENA PARK – Sunny Hills doesn’t try to do anything fancy with its double-wing, two tight-end offense, but the Lancers sure can run the ball.

Sunny Hills (5-0) rushed for 349 yards including Joe Ha’s 197 on 27 carries in a 35-19 victory over Los Amigos in a nonleague game on homecoming Friday night at Buena Park High.

The Lancers have already had a turnaround season. They won only three games last year.

“It’s incredible,” Sunny Hills coach Jon Caffrey said. “I’m so happy for our kids. They haven’t had a lot of success in the past couple of years.”

Ha, a quick and punishing 5-foot-7, 185-pound senior, had scoring runs of 3, 5 and 4 yards. Quarterback Malcom Dixon gained 126 yards on 10 carries and had TD runs of 9 and 4 yards for Sunny Hills, which attempted one pass.

Moby Contreras rushed for 209 yards on 28 carries, including touchdowns of 19 and 14 yards for Los Amigos (2-2), which played without injured starting quarterback and free safety Luis Casas (ankle) and wide receiver and defensive back Chris Reyes (knee).

Sunny Hills dominated the first half with scoring marches of 80 yards on eight plays, 53 on 10 and 94 on 10 for a 21-6 halftime lead.
