COSTA MESA – University extended its undefeated streak to three games to start the season after defeating Calvary Chapel, 30-14, in a nonleague game Saturday night at Estancia High.

The Trojans struck first on a Sam Winder 9-yard run about five minutes into the first quarter. But the Eagles didn’t have to wait long to get even. On their ensuing possession, running back Braeden Stack needed only three carries to cover 78 yards, including the tying score.

University would retake the lead early in the second quarter thanks to a 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wesley Jordan, who found Matt Abellaneda in the end zone.

Nick Loveland’s extra point was good, and the kicker added a 32-yard field goal with 4:42 to go until the end of the period to give the Trojans a 17-7 edge, which remained unchanged until halftime.

During the second half, Loveland added field goals of 30 and 31 yards, while Jordan set up wide receiver Neil Boudreau for University’s last touchdown.

Calvary Chapel’s Stack, who finished with 163 yards on 16 carries, added another score for the Eagles, and would’ve gotten one more had it not been for a fumble at the 1-yard line with 2:12 remaining in the game.

For the Trojans, Jordan went 12 of 21 for 114 yards and two touchdowns. He added 18 yards on four carries on the ground. Boudreau was his favorite target, and finished with five catches for 84 yards.

Abellaneda finished with 79 yards on 12 carries for University, while Winder and Allahsan Jenkins added 54 and 40, respectively.
