LONG BEACH – In a battle of styles, Long Beach Jordan’s running game was slightly better than Aliso Niguel’s passing game, allowing the Panthers to defeat the Wolverines, 29-24, in a nonleague game Friday night.

The Panthers (1-3) opened a comfortable lead at the half and held on, as the Wolverines were unable to capitalize on a last-minute push. Aliso Niguel had a first-and-goal at the 11-yard line with over two minutes to go, but penalties and the Panthers’ defense were enough to prevent them from completing the comeback.

Running back Ronnie Watts led Long Beach Jordan with 151 yards on 18 carries, as part of a ground attack that totaled 280 yards. Semigi Long added 83 yards on six carries.

For the Wolverines, quarterback Nick Chapman finished 18 of 51 for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both caught by wide receiver Ian Robertson. Robertson finished with five catches for 95 yards.

Chapman also added a score on the ground in the fourth quarter.

Panthers backup QB Devonte Murray went 5 of 7 for 121 yards.
