HUNTINGTON BEACH – Edison scored four touchdowns on six plays in the first quarter and rolled to a 51-6 victory over Centennial of Compton in a nonleague game Friday night at Huntington Beach High.

The Chargers (2-0), who opened their season last week with a 49-10 victory over Baldwin in Hawaii, scored touchdowns on its first three plays and led 48-0 at halftime.

After forcing the Apaches (0-1) to a three-and-out on the game’s opening series, Edison got the scoring started when quarterback Matthew Gane connected with Jake Favreau for a 44-yard touchdown reception.

On the Chargers’ next offensive series, Gane showed off his running ability with a keeper that went for a 40-yard score.

The Chargers’ special teams helped set up the next score. AJ Beynon blocked a Centennial punt that was recovered by teammate Tommy Mang deep in Apaches territory.

Running back Manase Time struck quickly with an 8-yard scoring run to give Edison a 21-0 lead with 5:33 left in the quarter.

Time added a second rushing touchdown in the second quarter and finished with 21 yards on five carries.

The early lead allowed the Chargers to pull Gane in the second quarter. He finished with 114 yards on 4 of 5 passing and 40 yards rushing. Favreau finished with four catches for 108 yards,

Edison held the Apaches to 30 total yards of offense in the first half while making life difficult for quarterback Jonathan Gales, who finished with 24 yards on 4 of 13 passing.

Gales scored his team’s lone touchdown on a 22-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Apaches running back Anthony Thompson rushed for 83 yards on 9 carries, most of which came in the second half.
