Douglas, Bellflower outrun Santa Ana Valley
BELLFLOWER – Tyrus Douglas rushed for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Bellflower defeated Santa Ana Valley, 24-7, in a nonleague game Friday night at Bellflower High.
The Buccaneers (2-2) used a methodical attack that saw them score in every quarter and pulled away late in the third thanks to their star running back.
Douglas had 23 carries and shared the ground attack with quarterback Sebastian Sanchez, who scored the first touchdown and added 24 yards rushing on eight attempts.
Sanchez's passing, though, was erratic throughout the night, completing 10 of 24 for 107 yards.
The Falcons dropped to 1-2-1 as they shied away from the passing game and deposited most of their hopes on running back Alex Hernandez.
Hernandez rushed for 110 yards on 30 carries but his output alone couldn't keep Santa Ana Valley in the game beyond the third quarter. Quarterback Isaac Guerrero completed two passes (both to wide receiver Louis Aceves), although on just six attempts, finishing with 22 yards.
A key moment came toward the end of the third quarter as Douglas rushed for his second touchdown and the team's third to put the game out of reach.
