YORBA LINDA – Edyon Batta scored three touchdowns to lead Southlands Christian of Roland Heights to a 45-22 victory over Fairmont Prep in a San Joaquin League game Thursday at Yorba Linda High.

The Huskies will not go to the playoffs and finish the season 4-6 overall and 1-4 in league.

The Eagles (5-5, 3-2) led 17-14 halftime, but broke open the game by scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter.

Batta caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Adrian Albarran on Southlands Christian’s first possession of the third quarter. Moments later, Batta returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown. Samson Tufui (158 yards rushing) added a 56-yard touchdown run to up the Eagles lead to 37-14.

The Huskies took the opening kickoff and marched 73 yards in 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead. Ramsey Glover (100 yards rushing) carried the ball five times for 53 yards on the drive, including a 7-yard run on a fourth-down play to keep the drive alive. Diego Serrano capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.

The Eagles countered when Tufui scored on an 8-yard run and Albarran tossed a 72-yard TD pass to Batta.

Later in the quarter, Fairmont running back Kiki Mendoza’s 33-yard TD run tied the score at 14.

On the final play of the half, Yesung Jung kicked a 32-yard field goal to give Southlands Christian a 17-14 halftime lead.

Mendoza played running back, quarterback and cornerback, rushed for 138 yards and scored two touchdowns. He finished the season with 1,188 yards rushing.

He scored a 38-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and snagged an interception in the first half.
