COSTA MESA – Chase Garbers threw for 316 yards and five touchdowns as No. 12 Corona del Mar rolled to a 47-7 victory over University in a Pacific Coast League game at Estancia High.

Corona del Mar (7-1, 3-0) got out quickly on its senior night as the senior, Cal-committed Garbers hit Tae Le on a 40-yard pass and found Reece Perez on a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Garbers then orchestrated a 12-play drive including a 33-yard rush on a third-and-28 play and an 11-yard carry on fourth-and-1.

“It’s so understated his ability to run the ball,” CdM coach Dan O’Shea said. “His ability to scramble … he bails us out of more stuff and bad yardage situations with his feet. It’s amazing.”

Le was wide open on a play-action pass that Garbers connected on for a 15-yard touchdown and the 14-0 lead.

University (6-2, 1-2) came back on its next drive. Thomas Keeling connected with Nick Wetzel on a 26-yard pass, and Alex Pourdanesh took a direct snap 6 yards for the score.

Dylan Tucker’s 57-yard return set up the Sea Kings in University territory. Garbers threw to Perez for a 9-yard touchdown pass and 21-7 lead.

Jaydin Moses broke up the aerial show with a 16-yard TD run midway through the second quarter.

Moses picked up another score on Garbers fourth touchdown pass, a 24-yard score, for a 34-7 halftime lead.

Moses ran for 118 yards on eight carries.

Garbers played only one drive to open the second half that resulted in a 31-yard TD pass to Billy Shaw for a 40-7 CdM lead.

Garbers finished 15-of-22 passing for 316 yards, five touchdowns and an interception. He also carried the ball nine times for 98 yards.
