FULLERTON – Fullerton didn’t waste any time putting the nonleague portion of its schedule in the rearview mirror Friday night.

Less than two quarters to be exact.

The Indians scored 50 points in the first 19 minutes 15 seconds, all they needed in the 50-14 victory against visiting Dana Hills.

“We had a good week of practice,” said running back/slotback Dylan Nicholson, who scored three touchdowns on four touches. “Right off the start, we just had to tackle, and the rest of our guys did it from there.”

The Indians ran just two offensive plays and were already leading 15-0.

Adam Gonzalez returned the first punt of the game 49 yards to the 25-yard line. Two plays later, sophomore quarterback Gavin Klepper threw a slip screen to Tommy Gomez-Garcia and he cut through the defense for an 18-yard touchdown.

Dana Hills (1-5) elected to go for it on fourth-and-3 from its 35-yard line on its next possession, but Anthony Ayon stepped in front of the throw and returned the interception 40 yards for a touchdown with 7:55 left in the first quarter.

Nicholson then displayed his running ability, scoring on 26-yard catch-and-run and then a 67-yard reception to make it 29-0 with 9:59 left in the first half.

Not everything went perfect for the Indians. Dylan Cowles intercepted another pass and appeared headed for a clear touchdown return, but bobbled the ball during the run back and it went out of bounds at the Dana Hills 18-yard line.

That didn’t stop the offense, however. Arturo Bravo ran the ball to the 1 on the next play and then scored two plays later for a 36-0 lead.

The Indians (3-2) open Freeway League play next week against Sunny Hills.

“I think we really turned it around this week,” Nicholson said.
