SANTA ANA – It’s no secret what’s coming when lining up against Segerstrom’s double-wing offense.

The Jaguars are going to run and run right at you. So far, they’ve run it to perfection.

Segerstrom rushed for 309 yards and four touchdowns to finish its nonleague schedule undefeated (5-0) with a 26-6 win over Northwood at Segerstrom High on Thursday.

“It’s really hard to practice for our offense,” Segerstrom coach Joe Tagaloa said. “We have a lot of weapons. We’ve got different guys every week that step up.”

After recovering an opening fourth-down fumble by Northwood (0-5), Segerstrom started churning on the ground as Gabriel Mota, Kevin Cabada, Juan Vargas, David Gallegos and Derrick Leang bulldozed holes up front.

Julian Vagilenty broke a 45-yard run to the Northwood 5-yard line. Marcos Avalos capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Northwood’s punter’s knee hit the ground trying to grab a low snap, Segerstrom added a 30-yard burst from Denilson Santamaria for a 14-0 lead.

Northwood found some life and its passing game to open the second quarter with a 20-yard pass from Brandon Johnson to Dillon Gonzales. Johnson hit Mike Coleman over the middle on an 8-yard TD pass for a 14-6 deficit.

Segerstrom kept moving on the ensuing drive, and JC Caravez ran through a couple arm tackles and cut back for a 27-yard touchdown run and a 20-6 lead.

Santamaria sprung down the far sideline for a 30-yard gain that was followed by another Caravez TD run, from eight yards out, for a 26-6 lead at halftime.

Northwood threatened in the third quarter as it reached Segerstrom’s 1-yard line on back-to-back drives.

The Jaguars held strong and pushed back stopping the Timberwolves on fourth down each time.
