MISSION VIEJO – KC Carr and the Tustin offensive line propelled the Tillers to a 28-21 win over Trabuco Hills on Friday at Trabuco Hills High.

The junior had 197 yards and three touchdowns on 40 carries.

“The offensive line carries the load,” Carr said. “All I do is run and when they block it opens it up for me. Those guys are carrying the team right now.”

Tustin coach Myron Miller was happy to get the win, but displeased with his team’s offensive performance.

“We practiced against that defense all week and we weren’t tough enough tonight,” Miller said. “It’s great to win but we have so many things to work on. Hats off to their kids, they had a great game plan.”

Trabuco (2-2) executed its game plan early. Quarterback Tommy Germain led the Mustangs on a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive, capped by a touchdown pass to Michael O’Malley.

The Tillers (3-1) answered with a 60-yard scoring drive on which Carr scored on a 1-yard run.

Carr found the end zone again late in the second quarter on a 36-yard run to give Tustin a 12-6 lead.

Trabuco drove down the field on its final possession of the first half. Germain rolled to his right and threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Rennon Misiuk to give the Mustangs a 13-12 lead at halftime.

After a Tustin field goal in the fourth quarter, Germain escaped the pocket and threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Ben Tafoya to give the Mustangs a 21-15 lead.

Miller opened up the playbook and unleashed the passing game in the fourth. Tillers quarterback Sagel Simon threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Gregory Kimble Jr. to give the Tillers a one-point lead, 22-21.

Carr added a 6-yard scoring run for his third TD.
