WHITTIER – University running back Sam Winder scored three touchdowns, and the Trojan defense held Pioneer to 163 yards total offense as the Trojans cruised to a 37-0 victory over the Titans in a nonleague game Thursday night at Pioneer High.

Winder ran for 101 yards on eight carries, including a 69-yard run from scrimmage to open the second half, which got the ball to the Titan 1-yard line, where Winder tallied his third score of the evening on the next play.

University (2-0), which finished with 268 yards on offense, scored on its first two possessions. An 11-yard run from punt formation by Alex Pourdanesh set up Winder’s 8-yard touchdown run with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter.

The next time the Trojans got the ball, Winder scored from 3 yards out, set up on a 27-yard pass completion from Thomas Keeling to Pourdanesh.

Pioneer (0-3) had a shot at getting on the board with 7:24 left in the first half, but Andrew Cantu’s 35-yard field goal attempt was blocked. Daniel Dolan picked up the loose ball and raced 67 yards as University increased its lead to 21-0.

Keeling found Pourdanesh open for a 21-yard scoring strike three minutes later, as the Trojans took a 27-0 lead into intermission.

The Titans would have another miscue in the kicking game, as a bad snap to the punter resulted in a 27-yard return by Onyexx Chukwumerije deep into Pioneer territory. The Titan defense was able to hold the Trojans to a 25-yard Nick Loveland field goal.

White finished with 69 rushing yards on six carries and three receptions for 68 yards. Juan Avalos led the Pioneer offense with 92 yards on the ground, while recording eight solo tackles on defense.
