SANTA ANA – Chris Hernandez scored three touchdowns in leading Santa Ana Valley to a 42-7 Orange League victory at Century on Friday night.
Hernandez rushed for 138 yards on 21 carries, including TD runs of 2, 7 and 4 yards, and has the Falcons (2-4-1, 2-0) in a three-way tie for first place with Anaheim and Katella.
Mauricio Rodriguez scored on a 45-yard run midway through the second quarter to get the Centurions (2-5, 0-2) to within 14-7, but Santa Ana Valley scored the final 28 points.
Malcolm Wesley had a 70-yard punt return for a TD, Jason Wilkinson scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper and Juan Romero ran for a 3-yard score to cap the night for the Falcons.
Hernandez left in the third quarter after the Falcons took a big lead. Most of the fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Rodriguez had 70 yards rushing for Century. Sherman Thomas caught for passes for 30 yards, and caught a 2-point conversion pass from Wilkinson.
In addition to the punt return for a score, Wesley gained 34 yards on five carries for the Falcons.
Anthony Perez intercepted Century and brought it back to the Centurions 5-yard line to set up a second-quarter score.
Century hosts Savanna (2-5) next week, while Santa Ana Valley travels to Magnolia (2-5)
