ORANGE – Marcos Avalos threw for a touchdown and ran for another to guide Segerstrom to a 28-7 victory over Orange in a Golden West League finale Friday night at El Modena High.

The sophomore quarterback completed 11 of his 15 passes for 129 yards with an interception and added 17 yards on 11 carries.

The Jaguars (3-7, 2-3) jumped to a 14-0 lead with 5:49 left in the first half when Abel Diaz capped a 13-play, 60-yard drive that consumed 6:02 with a 1-yard TD run.

The host Panthers (1-9, 0-5) responded on the ensuing series thanks to junior fullback Dion Perinon. His game-best 51-yard run set up Orange’s lone score, which came five plays later. Perinon’s 1-yard run capped a six-play, 61-yard drive and cut the Panthers’ deficit to 14-7.

Perinon led all rushers with 80 yards on nine carries.

Segerstrom scored twice in the third quarter to secure its second win in three games. Avalos threw a TD pass to Zamani Nuñez 3:15 into the third to increase the Jaguars’ advantage to 21-7, then scored from 1 yard out on a keeper late in the quarter.

Junior Justin Nip opened the scoring with 4:41 left in the first when he finished the game’s longest drive (95 yards) with a 12-yard touchdown run. The conversion attempt failed. Nip finished with 64 yards on 14 carries for the Jaguars, whose rushing game was led by Tinajero (79 yards, 11 carries).
