ANAHEIM – Unable to hold on to a fourth-quarter lead, Cypress suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Diamond Bar, 38-27, in a nonleague matchup Friday at Western High.

Leading, 27-24, the Centurions (3-1) allowed the go-ahead score when Diamond Bar’s Antonio Hull scored on a 3-yard run to put the Brahmas (3-2) up 31-27 with 10:02 left in the game.

On its next drive, Cypress drove down the field but quarterback Nick Buras threw an interception. Hull scored again on a 3-yard run to put the game away. Hull rushed for 198 yards on 27 carries and four touchdowns.

The Centurions trailed, 17-0, in the second quarter before scoring 21 unanswered points, ignited by a 90-yard kickoff return from Quinten Pounds.

Buras then recovered his own onside kick. The drive ended on a 5-yard rushing score for Pounds. On the next possession, Pounds was on the receiving end of a 48-yard pass from Buras.

Pounds rushed for 61 yards on seven carries and had 70 yards on three receptions. Buras was 7-of-14 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense of Cypress struggled to contain the Brahmas running game, fueled by Hull who rushed for 198 yards on 27 carries and four touchdowns.
