DIAMOND BAR – It’s not typical to see three penalties during a crucial drive late in the game.

Brea Olinda found a way to overcome that obstacle Friday night, sealing its first victory of the season after Nick Drury hit David Morris on a 21-yard pass with 7:29 remaining to defeat Diamond Bar 23-20 in nonleague action at Diamond Bar High.

Zach Arnold’s recovery of a mishandled punt return at the Brahmas’ 42-yard-line with 11:04 left played an important role in setting up the deciding score. Also important was Morris’ 37-yard reception on 3rd and 19 from the Diamond Bar 49.

Drury also went to Morris late in the third on a 10-yard pass, which gave the Wildcats (1-2) a 16-13 advantage.

Drury completed 5 of 12 passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns and Morris had three catches for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Antonio Hull gave the Brahmas (2-2) a 20-16 lead with 1:01 to play in the third on his 51-yard run to follow Dimaggio Rico’s 44-yard kickoff return.

Hull ran for 139 on 12 carries with three touchdowns.

Noah Rivera’s 52-yard kickoff return set up the Wildcats’ first touchdown. Three runs from Billy Hanley ended with a 31-yard carry to cut the deficit to 7-6. Hanley finished with 37 rushes for 173 yards.

Brea Olinda has now defeated Diamond Bar in three of the last four meetings and will continue its nonleague schedule against Foothill at Tustin High School on Sept. 25.
