ALISO VIEJO – Long Beach Jordan scored 14 points in the final seconds of the game to defeat Aliso Niguel, 27-16, and ruin the Wolverines' home opener Friday night in a nonleague game at Aliso Niguel High.

The Wolverines (1-3) took a 16-13 lead when sophomore quarterback Ryan Chapman found tight end Alec Stewart in the back of the end zone for a touchdown with 2:01 left.

But the Panthers, who had managed just two touchdowns in their first three games, marched 65 yards in 1 minute, 40 seconds, capping off the comeback with a 2-yard scoring run by junior quarterback DeOliver Walker.

The Wolverines aided the Panthers on the drive by committing two costly penalties, including a roughing-the-passer call. A pass interference penalty gave the Panthers a first down on the Wolverines 12. From there, Walker did the rest with a 10-yard run and the game-winning score.

Long Beach Jordan (1-3) then iced the game when cornerback Semisi Iongi returned an interception 29 yards with six seconds remaining.

Long Beach Jordan scored all of its points in the second half after trailing 9-0.

Chaz Sanders initiated the comeback with an 88-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff of the second half. On its next possession, the Panthers marched 69 yards on four plays, scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Devon Cannon to take a 13-9 lead. A 62-yard catch by Jordan Kelly highlighted the drive. The snap on the ensuing extra point was mishandled. Cannon finished with 58 yards on 13 carries.

After a scoreless first quarter, Aliso Niguel scored on a 2-yard run by quarterback Remy Wasserbach with 9:10 left in the first half. Wasserbach and Chapman shared duties as signal caller. The pair combined to complete 13 of 26 passes for 97 yards. Wasserbach also accounted for the Wolverines next points when he blocked a punt that rolled out of the end zone with 46 seconds left in the half.
