Girls swimming coach of the year
Pat Bangs, Woodbridge
The Warriors emerged as a popular darkhorse contender for the CIF-SS Division 1 finals and proved worthy of the chatter by producing their first runner-up finish. Woodbridge won the 200-yard medley and 500 freestyle with Kate Krolikowski en route to 271.5 points to place a strong second to Santa Margarita (309). “(This season) was the most fun I’ve ever had in all the years I’ve been coaching,” said Bangs, who started with Woodbridge in 1981. “I like to start low and go high.” Bangs also guided Woodbridge to the Pacific Coast League crown, the school’s first league title since 1990. The Warriors set school records in six events.
