Orange Lutheran’s girls swim team captured the toughest individual race along with the overall title Saturday at the JSerra Invitational.
Mollie Simmons conquered a challenging field in the 50-yard freestyle while the Lancers won six other events, including two of the three relays.
Simmons, a junior, outdueled teammate Carley Vaccher and JSerra’s Katie Glavinovich to touch first in the 50 with a time of 24.46 seconds, just six one-hundredths of a second off the automatic CIF Division 1 qualifying standard.
Vaccher (24.86) and Glavinovich (24.99) also broke 25 seconds in placing second and third, respectively.
Simmons also won the backstroke in 1:04.59 and anchored the Lancers’ winning 200 medley relay (1:56.35).
Vaccher claimed the 100 freestyle in 54.29.
The Lancers racked up 701 points to outdistance runner-up JSerra at 485.
Glavinovich won the 200 individual medley in a 2:06.16, an automatic Division 1 qualifying time.
Orange Lutheran also took the boys title, scoring 457 points to outdistance Sage Hill at 325.
JSerra’s William Hjertaker out-touched teammate Beau Burnight by three one-hundredths to claim the boys 50 free in 22.46. Sage Hill’s Taras Polakoff won the butterfly (54.91) and backstroke (55.67).
