La Quinta wins second in a row
GARDEN GROVE —In La Quinta coach Wes Choate’s mind, every game is a playoff game right now.
The Aztecs are playing as if they agree.
After opening the season by losing its first five games, La Quinta is at the top of its game, winning its second consecutive Garden Grove League game, 24-10 over Los Amigos on Thursday night at Garden Grove High.
The Aztecs (2-5, 2-0) took advantage of a pair of turnovers by the Lobos (0-7, 0-2) in the first half. Andy Luu had two scoring passes to Brandon Guillory to give La Quinta a 14-0 lead.
Los Amigos held tough, however, getting on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown dive by Daniel Hernandez as time expired in the first half.
La Quinta recovered an onside kick to start the second half. Five plays later, Luu threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Kersey for a 21-7 lead.
The two teams traded field goals the rest of the way.
