A look at Orange County boys basketball:

• Of the 16 boys teams in the CIF-Southern Section Open Division, nine are private schools (56 percent). Of the 573 CIF-SS member schools, 147 (26 percent) are private schools. Thus it could be viewed that a disproportionate number of schools in this elite division are private schools.

• When two teams meet after the first round of the playoffs, the team with the fewest playoff home games is the home team. If the teams have had an equal number of playoff home games a coin flip determines the home team.

• If Brea Olinda and Servite win their 3AA quarterfinals games today, they would play each other in Friday’s semifinals at Brea because Brea would have only one playoff home game to Servite’s two. Brea had a home game against Servite in the 3AAA quarterfinals last year. Some exuberant jumping up and down by “The Asylum,” Servite’s rambunctious student-cheering section, broke some bleachers that Servite paid to replace.

• The CIF-SS boys basketball finals, March 7 and 8, will be at Honda Center (March 8 only), Azusa Pacific University and Godinez High. The Anaheim Convention Center area is booked by other events on March 8 and during basketball championships weekend next year, so Honda Center will be the site of upper-division finals this season and next.

• Godinez was selected as a finals site because it has a large gym, plentiful parking and the basketball coach, Greg Coombs, gives the CIF-SS office confidence it has a veteran on-site coordinator.

• Five of the Trinity League’s six members remain in the playoffs. Five of the Century League’s seven teams also are playing this week. Four of six Freeway League teams remain.

• Every team in the county top 10 advanced through the first week of the playoffs.

Cameron Griffin of Brethren Christian scored 22 in a win over Pilibos of Los Angeles and 25 in a win over Academy of Careers and Exploration of Helendale last week.

• More of last week’s top performances: La Habra’s David Desatoff scored 24 points in a win over Woodbridge, which got 22 points from Michael Scarlett; Eyassu Worku scored 25 points for Los Alamitos in a win over Long Beach Jordan; Chandler Hutchison of Mission Viejo scored 21 in a win over Pacifica of Oxnard; El Toro’s Tanner Aguera scored 21 in a win over Chaparral of Temecula; Jacob Short scored 21 for Capistrano Valley in a win over Summit of Fontana; and Edison’s Jake Haar scored 23 in a win over Rialto.

• Brea’s Michael Turner scored 20 in a win over Palos Verdes; Alec Wulff scored 26 for Laguna Beach in a win over Whittier Christian and teammate Noah Blanton scored 21 in a win over Bosco Tech of Rosemead; Brad Johnson of Yorba Linda had 24 points in a win over Beverly Hills; Jarrett Brodbeck of Esperanza scored 20 in a win over Jurupa Hills of Fontana; Western’s Jason Walker scored 27 in a win over Bolsa Grande; Johnnie Vassar of JSerra scored 28 in a win over Twentynine Palms; and Devante Cooper of Orangewood Academy scored 23 in a win over Waverly of Pasadena.

• How this panelist voted on the county top 10: 1. Mater Dei; 2. El Toro; 3. Mission Viejo; 4. Sonora; 5. Canyon; 6. Los Alamitos; 7. Santa Margarita; 8. JSerra; 9. Saddleback Valley Christian; 10. Foothill.
