Esperanza girls tennis captain and track and field athlete Morgan Wilson remains in critical condition at UC Irvine Medical Center after suffering cardiac arrest during a workout last Tuesday, according to Esperanza track coach Rich Medellin.

“Morgan had a very difficult day yesterday (Sunday),” Esperanza sprints coach Gary Moore said in an email. “She had fluid in her lungs and had infections.

“Since Morgan decided to be an organ donor, the doctors and the family decided to run tests on her organs to see if they can be donated.”

The family has requested there be no visitors at this time.

Paramedics revived Wilson and transported her to UCI after she collapsed while warming up and preparing for a tennis lesson at the Anaheim Tennis Center last Tuesday.

Last week, Wilson, 17, underwent a CAT scan but showed very little brain activity, according to Medellin.

A prayer meeting was held for Wilson on Thursday at Esperanza’s tennis courts, where several hundred people showed up.

“I pray to God he just lets us keep her,” Morgan’s grandmother, Celia Wilson, said that day. “We’re asking for our miracle.”
