Wilson sophomore Hunter Epson posted the low round Wednesday as he made five birdies to finish with a 2-under-par total of 70. Epson holds a nine-shot lead heading into the final round of the Moore League boys championships, as he sits at 4-under-par 212 through 54 holes.

Poly senior Evan Zytowski is in second place after posting a 3-over-par round of 75. Zytowski is at 5-over-par 221 after 54 holes.

Here are the top eight after 54 holes: 1. Hunter Epson, Wilson 70 (212); 2. Evan Zytowski, Poly 75 (221); 3. Austin Orkin, Wilson 74 (223); 4. Harold Calubid, Wilson 74 (224); 5. Ryder Epson, Wilson 78 (225) and Justin Collins, Lakewood 75 (225); 7. Jericho Betts. Poly 72 (229); 8. Jack Hayes, Wilson 77 (230).

The top six finishers earn a spot in the CIF Southern Individual Regional. The final round takes place today at Recreation Park Golf Course 18 at 1 pm.

Cross-Battle in HOF

Long Beach State volleyball icon Tara Cross-Battle has been elected to the Volleyball Hall of Fame. She was one of six new inductees announced by the hall for the Class of 2014.

Cross-Battle dominated on the court in leading the 49ers to national prominence. She was a four-time All-American and a two-time National Player of the Year and led the 49ers to their first NCAA title in 1989.

Cross-Battle rewrote the 49er record book during her four years at the Beach. She finished her career with the third-most kills in NCAA history and set an NCAA Tournament record with 126 kills on the way to the NCAA championship.

She was also the first player in the U.S. to compete in four Olympic Games (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004). She also competed in three FIVB World Championships for Team USA.

Cross-Battle will be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame beside Roza Salikhova of the former USSR, Nalbert Bitencourt of Brazil, Sandra Pires of Brazil, Joop Alberda of the Netherlands and Miloslav Ejem of the Czech Republic.

The induction ceremony will take place in Holyoke, Mass., on Oct. 18.

FINA World League in Riverside

The schedule has been announced for the FINAWomen’s Intercontinental Water Polo tournament May 19-25 at the Riverside Aquatics Complex.

The U.S. team will play Australia in an exhibition on May 19 (6 p.m.) and then have pool games against Japan (May 20), Kazakhstan (May 21) and Canada (May 22). The top teams then advance to the medal round on May 23-25.

The event is a qualifier for the FINA World League Super Final. Rosters are to be announced. Lolo Silver (Wilson) and Rachel Fattal (Los Alamitos) are current national senior team members.

AVCA All-Americans

Former Wilson standouts Becca Strehlow and Kellie Woolever (Pepperdine) and former Jackrabbit Litara Keil (Loyola Marymount) were named to the 2014 AVCA Sand Volleyball All-American team.

Strehlow and Woolever helped lead Pepperdine to the national title. Woolever and partner Kelley Larsen won their match against Florida State in three sets, forcing a winner-take-all set between the No. 1 teams. Strehlow and Lara Dykstra won in consecutive sets to give the Waves the title.
