One of JSerra’s candidates to fill the void left by the transfer of All-County running back Edward Vander is St. Francis of La Canada transfer Avery Williams (5-11, 195), Lions football coach Jim Hartigan said.

Williams is a junior transfer who plays safety and running back, Hartigan said.

Last season, Williams was one of the top tacklers for St. Francis (11-1), which won the Angelus League but lost in the second round of the Southeast Division playoffs to La Serna, 38-35. He also had three interceptions and four sacks.

Williams scored nine touchdowns (six rushing, two receiving, one INT return) in 2014.

St. Francis also featured wide receiver Dylan Crawford, who transferred to Santa Margarita.

Vander recently transferred to Paramount, the school he attended before arriving at JSerra.

Hartigan also said San Clemente junior wide receiver Charlie Mestaz (5-9, 170) has transferred to JSerra.
