OCVarsity O.C. top 10 for Week 1 of playoffs

A weekly poll of O.C. media members:

1. Mission Viejo (10-0, 97 poll points)

Diablos did not play last week, and should be well rested as they try for a second straight West Valley Division championship. This week: vs. Hart of Newhall, Friday

2. Mater Dei (8-2, 93)

Monarchs, who finished second in the Trinity League, got down to business in a 45-14 win over Santa Margarita in which they had eight sacks. This week: vs. Lakewood, at Santa Ana Stadium, Friday

3. Tesoro (8-2, 71)

Devon Modster passed for 390 yards and two touchdowns and ran for three TDs in Titans’ 66-27 win over San Juan Hills to take second place in the South Coast League. They are the third seed in West Valley Division. This week: vs. Great Oak of Temecula, Friday

4. Orange Lutheran (5-5, 68)

5. JSerra (7-3, 59)

In 2013, Lions won final two Trinity League games to finish in tie for third place, lost coin flips, tried for at-large berth, didn’t get it; same thing happened to them this year with wins over playoff-bound Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran. This week: season over

6. Servite (4-6, 49)

7. La Habra (9-1, 42)

Highlanders shut out Troy, 42-0, to win another Freeway League championship, extend their Orange County-record league winning streak to 45 games and snag the top-seed in Southwest Division playoffs. This week: vs. Kennedy, Friday

8. Santa Margarita (5-5, 39)

Eagles will miss the playoffs for the second year in a row after they were overwhelmed by Mater Dei in second half of 45-14 loss in Trinity League finale. This week: season over

9. San Juan Hills (8-2, 15)

Stallions lost big to Tesoro, 66-27, but that does not diminish huge improvement over last year when Stallions went 4-6 in regular season. This week: at Valencia of Valencia, Friday
