O.C. FOOTBALL TOP 10

A weekly poll of OC. media members:

1. Mater Dei (7-1, 100 poll points)

Roman Kafenzis, Jed Smith made huge defensive plays in first half and Brandon LaMarche rushed for 130 yards in that half as the Monarchs surged ahead and rolled to 42-10 win over Servite at Angel Stadium. This week: vs. JSerra at Saddleback College, Friday

2. Mission Viejo (9-0, 89)

Diablos’ quick, attacking defense made it difficult for San Juan Hills offense to establish any consistency, and the offensive line was a force in their 48-20 win. This week: at El Toro, Friday

3. Orange Lutheran (5-3, 80)

Lj Northington rushed for 104 yards, passed for 152 as Lancers defeated Santa Margarita, 28-14, to greatly improve playoff chances. This week: vs. St. John Bosco at Orange Coast College, Thursday

4T. Santa Margarita (5-3, 62)

Eagles got quarterback KJ Costello back but lost to Orange Lutheran. They are 1-2 in Trinity League with league games remaining against Servite and Mater Dei. This week: vs. Servite at Cerritos College, Friday

4T. Tesoro (7-2, 62)

After disappointing loss to Mission Viejo, Titans needed a confidence infusion and got one with a 68-7 win over Dana Hills. Titans’ losses are to No. 1 Mater Dei by 14 points, No. 2 Mission by six. This week: bye

6. Servite (3-5, 46)

Friars hung with Mater Dei early before turnovers put momentum in Monarchs’ hands for good. Servite’s losses are to teams that are a combined 35-7. This week: vs. Santa Margarita at Cerritos College, Friday

7. La Habra (7-1, 42)

Eric Barriere’s seven touchdown passes tied O.C. single-game record as Highlanders crushed Fullerton, 62-13, and extended Freeway League winning streak to 43 games. This week: vs. Sunny Hills at Buena Park High, Friday

8. San Juan Hills (7-1, 32)

Stallions fell behind by a lot early in 48-20 loss to Mission Viejo. Providing a silver lining was Jacob Huff, who had 11 catches for 65 yards. This week: vs. Dana Hills, Friday

9. JSerra (5-3, 20)

Lions ripped by team that rips everybody in 60-7 loss to St. John Bosco. At 0-3 in Trinity League, Lions’ chances for repeat trip to playoffs are not strong. This week: vs. Mater Dei at Saddleback College, Friday

10. San Clemente (6-2, 10)

Tritons clobbered Laguna Hills, 59-0, to improve to 2-0 in Sea View League. Their next game is against the team that beat them in CIF-SS Southwest Division final last year. This week: at Trabuco Hills, Friday.
