STAFF WRITER

A weekly poll of O.C. media members:

1. Mater Dei (6-0, 100 poll points)

Monarchs made more big plays on offense and defense than Orange Lutheran did in 49-35 win, and will need even more now. This week: vs. St. John Bosco, at Santa Ana Stadium, Friday

2. Mission Viejo (7-0, 89)

Diablos scored on six first-quarter possessions in 77-0 romp over Dana Hills as South Coast League winning streak reaches 30. This week: at Tesoro, Friday

3. Orange Lutheran (3-3, 69)

Lancers’ 14-point loss to Mater Dei did not damage reputation in pollsters’ minds as they moved up from last week’s No. 4 ranking. This week: vs. Servite, at Cerritos College, Friday

4. Santa Margarita (4-2, 60)

Egos were heavily bruised and so was quarterback KJ Costello in 62-14 loss to St. John Bosco. This week: vs. JSerra, at Saddleback College, Friday

5. Tesoro (6-1, 58)

Titans beat El Toro, 31-28, after trailing 21-0; they can’t fall behind by three touchdowns against their next South Coast League opponent. This week: at Mission Viejo, Friday

6. Servite (3-3, 53)

Like he did against Edison, Aaron Simpson stepped in as quarterback against JSerra and pushed Friars to 39-38 win. This week: vs. Orange Lutheran at Cerritos College, Friday

7. JSerra (5-1, 39)

Big night for Avery Williams (138 yards rushing, 91 yards receiving) in 39-38 loss to Servite. This week: vs. Santa Margarita at Saddleback College, Friday

8. San Juan Hills (6-0, 37)

Stallions took their bye week last week, now face rugged South Coast League opponents. This week: at El Toro, Friday

9. La Habra (5-1, 35)

Passing game faltered, so Highlanders relied upon running game led by Cortlin Taylor (153 rushing yards, four touchdowns) to beat Sonora, 35-7. This week: vs. Buena Park, Friday

10. San Clemente (5-2, 7)

Tritons were sharp offensively and defensively in 42-6 win over Capistrano Valley in a Sea View League opener. This week: bye
