The Register’s weekly Orange County football poll.

O.C. TOP 10

A weekly poll of O.C. media members:

1. Mater Dei (5-0, 100 poll points)

It all looks great for Monarchs, except for this: 14 penalties for 152 yards in 42-26 win over Edison. That can’t be repeated against Trinity League competition. This week: bye

2. Mission Viejo (6-0, 89)

Many teams need a bye week right now, and no team needs it more than this one, which played three out-of-O.C. away games. This week: bye

3. Santa Margarita (4-1, 70)

Best nickname in county football: Eagles teammates call linebacker Tanner Matthews “Tackle Hands” yet he snagged an interception and returned it 78 yards for a touchdown in 56-7 win over ML King of Riverside. This week: bye

4. Orange Lutheran (3-2, 65)

After losses to state’s Nos. 1- and 2-ranked teams, Lancers beat state No. 9 Vista Murrieta, 29-14, behind excellent running attack. This week: bye

5. JSerra (5-0, 64)

Lions mauled St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs as expected, 42-7. They don’t have a nonleague win that is impressive, although 42-14 over Chino Hills was pretty good. This week: bye

6. Tesoro (4-1, 51)

Titans were challenged by plucky Corona del Mar, got fourth-quarter touchdowns on offense and defense to acquire 45-31 win. This week: vs. San Clemente, Friday

7. La Habra (4-1, 42)

No late dramatics, and no letdown, as Highlanders cruised to a 49-6 road win at Colony of Ontario as Eric Barriere threw three touchdown passes. This week: bye

8. San Juan Hills (5-0, 37)

Stallions have scored 163 points over their last three games, including a 54-26 win over Los Alamitos that moves them up from No. 10 in last week’s ranking. This week: vs. Beckman, at Tustin High, Thursday

9. Servite (2-3, 22)

Like three weeks ago at De La Salle of Concord, Friars clearly were in over their heads in last week’s 38-7 loss at nationally ranked Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas. This week: bye

10. San Clemente (4-1, 6)

Our preseason No. 9 team, Tritons return to top 10 with 40-20 win over Newport Harbor. Their next opponent is a going to be a lot more challenging. This week: at Tesoro, Friday

Also receiving votes: Edison (2-3, 3); Los Alamitos (2-2, 2)
