A weekly poll of O.C. media members:
1. Mater Dei (3-0, 100 poll points)
That Daniels kid, the Monarchs freshman quarterback, played like a senior, throwing for 292 yards and six touchdowns in a 42-7 win over La Mirada. This week: at Upland, Friday
2. Mission Viejo (4-0, 86)
Defensive lineman Carter Hartmann led the Diablos’ hard-hitting defense and Brock Johnson made some clutch passes in a 24-14 win at La Habra, not the easiest place for a visiting team. This week: vs. Norco, Friday
3. Santa Margarita (3-0, 82)
Yes, the high-flying Eagles are OK on the ground, too, as Trey Green rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns, and defense created four turnovers, in a 33-13 win over Dorsey of Los Angeles. This week: at Westlake of Westlake Village, Friday
4. Orange Lutheran (2-1, 72)
Lancers defense had a tough time in 35-14 loss to Centennial of Corona, as Centennial rolled to 558 yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in five trips to the red zone. This week: at De La Salle of Concord, Friday
5. JSerra (3-0, 58)
Still is difficult figuring out how good this year’s Lions are, given the teams they have beaten – Cabrillo of Long Beach, Chino Hills and Huntington Beach – are a combined 3-6; we said that last year at this time, too, and Lions went 10-2 overall and 4-1 in Trinity League. This week: vs. Hamilton of Los Angeles at Saddleback College, Friday
6. Tesoro (2-1, 52)
After previous week’s loss to Mater Dei, resilient Titans revived themselves with 30-28 win over Upland, which was No. 5 in West Valley Division rankings. This week: at West Covina, Friday
7. Los Alamitos (2-0, 34)
Senior quarterback Jack Telenko has completed 68 percent of his passes, averaging 279 yards a game for Griffins who have outscored opponents, 102-28. This week: vs. La Habra at Veterans Stadium/Long Beach, Friday
8. La Habra (2-1, 33)
Highlanders, still having challenges beating higher-ranked opponents, gave Mission Viejo all it could handle in physically demanding 24-14 loss. This week: vs. Los Alamitos at Veterand Stadium/Long Beach, Friday
9. Servite (1-2, 18)
Friars got clobbered by state No. 1-ranked De La Salle of Concord, 52-15, which perhaps should have been expected, and hopes to rebound against a team that just got hot. This week: vs. Edison at Orange Coast College, Friday
10. San Juan Hills (3-0, 13)
Stallions’ averaging 41 points a game, average margin of victory is 23, and we’re looking forward to Sept. 25 vs. Los Alamitos. This week: vs. Marina at Westminster High, Friday
