OCVarsity spends a lot of time each week shining the spotlight on the football players, coaches and teams in Orange County.

But don’t think we’ve forgotten about the other stars of the game — the fans, bands, cheerleaders and spirit crews.

Every week we are looking for the best student sections in the county. The groups that are loud, creative, supportive, enthusiastic and fun are the ones that we write about in our Pregame Madness.

Last week, Foothill had the student section that stood out, earning the honor of being the OCVarsity All-County Student Section for Week 2.

The students filled the stands and covered their side of the stadium with posters. Plus, and this was a huge hit with our OCVarsity staff, the Foothill student section had a t-shirt canon.

That was enough to shoot the Knights to the top of our list.

Here is what our reporter Dan Albano, who was at last week’s Foothill-Tustin game, had to say about Foothill’s fans:

“The student-decorated black and yellow posters were so plentiful they had to be taped to the ground.

The girls’ faces were so festive with school-spirit, a few supporters wore gold glitter lipstick.
And the student section was so packed, the merry crowd filled the home stands from top to bottom.

There was abundance of spirit from the Foothill student section and they had the energy in their cheering to match.

Sure, the game was against rival Tustin but don’t be surprised to see the Foothill students keep this type of support running strong all season.”

Do you think your school should be the OCVarsity All-County Student Section of the Week? Send tweets and pics to us (@ocvarsity and use the hash tag #ocvupdates) that show your group getting ready for the big game or at the big game. (Be creative. We always love those big cutouts of Steve Fryer’s head.)

If we select your school, we’ll write about it in next week’s Pregame Madness and include a photo.

Does it get any better than that?

Enjoy the Pregame Madness until kickoff …
