STAFF WRITER

Here is this week's updated OCVarsity football poll for Week 1 of the season:

OCVARSITY'S O.C. TOP 10
(A weekly poll of 10 members of the Orange County media)

1. Mater Dei (1-0, 100 poll points)

Monarchs, ranked No. 8 in California, used defense and ball-control offense to beat the state’s No. 4 team, Bishop Amat.
This week:
vs. Tesoro, Friday

2. Mission Viejo (2-0, 85)

Diablos beat Liberty of Bakersfield, which beat them in their 2014 season opener.
This week:
vs. Oak Hills of Hesperia, Friday

3. Santa Margarita (1-0, 83)

It is believed the Eagles will score plenty of points this year, and they lived up to that with a 40-14 road win against Cathedral Catholic of San Diego.
This week: at Santiago of Corona, Friday

4. Orange Lutheran (1-0, 69)

Lancers got a 21-13 road win over feisty Dominguez of Compton.
This week:
at Crespi of Encino, Friday

5. Tesoro (1-0, 50)

A great season opener for quarterback Devon Modster and the Titans as they handled Edison, 35-16.
This week: vs. Mater Dei, Friday

6. JSerra (1-0, 48)

Lions went ahead early and did not let up in 48-13 home win over Long Beach Cabrillo.
This week:
at Chino Hills, Friday

7. La Habra (1-0, 41)

Seems to be no barrier to what quarterback Eric Barriere can do, as proven in the Highlanders’ 41-7 win over El Toro.
This week: vs. South Hills of Covina, Friday

8. Los Alamitos (0-0, 39)

Griffins did not play last week. They play at Veterans Stadium on Thursday against Paramount, which was No. 6 in the CIF-SS Southeast Division preseason rankings.

9. Servite (1-0, 21)

Friars were expected to beat Fountain Valley, but the 38-point margin was a bit unexpected. This week: at Bishop Amat of La Puente, Friday

10. San Juan Hills (1-0, 9)

Stallions make top-10 debut after convincing win over San Clemente, which was No. 9 in the preseason rankings.
This week: at Canyon, Friday

Also receiving votes: Edison (0-1, 5); Trabuco Hills (0-1, 2); Buena Park (1-0, 1); Corona del Mar (1-0, 1).
