OLYMPIC LEAGUE:
WHITTIER CHRISTIAN HERALDS
Coach: Sergio Gradilla (sixth year, 42-19)
Last season: 6-4 overall, 2-2 league
Scouting report: Whittier Christian had mixed results last year, but it could surprise the rest of the Olympic League this season. The team has an experienced offensive line with four returning starters. Running back Nick Watase will see the bulk of the carries. Justin Osborn has played well in training camp and could see considerable time in the backfield. The Heralds could have an ongoing competition at quarterback. Cooper Hughes will take the snaps for the first six weeks, but St. Francis transfer Joe Hernandez could challenge for the starting job when he becomes eligible. With only a few returners on defense, the Heralds will need to put points on the scoreboard to compete for the league crown.
