HUNTINGTON BEACH – Ocean View scored early and hung on to defeat Marina, 7-6, in a nonleague game Friday night at Ocean View.

Running back Miguel Cardoso’s 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter proved to be all the offense Ocean View (1-0) needed.

Marina (0-2) had more success than Ocean View did moving the ball but wasn’t able to finish off its drives.

Marina had a chance to win the game on the final play, but Tyler Clay intercepted Nolan Winks’ pass in the end zone to seal the victory for Ocean View.

It was the second interception for Clay – he also picked off Winks midway through the third quarter – who also caught two passes for 59 yards.

Cardoso led Ocean View with 56 yards on 13 carries, and Greg Tocchetti added another 27 on seven carries.

That helped offset a slow night for quarterback Blake Meyer, who passed for 69 yards but only connected on three of his 20 passes.

For Marina, Winks went 22 for 36 for 271 yards and a touchdown pass to Justin Hardy at the end of the first half. Hardy finished with 51 yards on five receptions, while Javier Sanchez had 75 on six catches.

Marina running back Cooper Malerstein finished with 52 yards on nine carries.
