Helix scouting report: Helix won the CIF-San Diego Section Open Division championship. The Highlanders beat St. Augustine of San Diego, 44-30, in the final. They lost their season opener, to Chaparral of Scottsdale, Ariz., then won 11 in a row. They are scoring 46 points a game while allowing 15 points a game. Senior quarterback Michael Austin has completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,725 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions. Nathen Stinson has rushed for 1,714 yards and 31 touchdowns. He is averaging 10 yards a carry. The winner of this game plays the winner of the North Division 1AA regional game – Bellarmine of San Jose vs. Folsom – in the CIF State 1AA final at Sacramento State on Dec. 18.

Mission Viejo scouting report: Mission Viejo, the CIF-SS West Valley Division champion, has a 26-game winning streak. Senior quarterback Brock Johnson has completed 64 percent of his passes for 3,252 yards and 37 touchdowns with nine interceptions. In Mission Viejo’s 21-14 win over Vista Murrieta in the West Valley championship game, Brenden Schooler had an interception, blocked a field-goal attempt and had a touchdown reception.

Prediction: Mission Viejo 35, Helix 21. Coach Bob Johnson said the Diablos seemed excited about the opportunity to add more glory to their outstanding season. They have the talent for it, so if the effort is there then Mission Viejo will advance to a 16th game.
